2004 Lane Automotive Car Show
Since Lane Automotive has moved to
the new facility in 1999, there has not been one car show without
rain. This year, the Friday Night Cruise-In was 65 degrees and
Sunny and the weather forecast for the Saturday show was 72 degrees
and Sun! Hopes were high for a great day Saturday, but the
rain curse struck once again. We had dry conditions until
10:00 a.m. and it then continued to drizzle the entire day.
Fortunately, we were able to walk the grounds and take pictures
before the rain struck. The pictures look rather dark, but due
to the weather conditions that really is what it looked like.
Despite the weather, there was an unbelievable collection of
vehicles on display and it was quite a site to see.
There were approximately 850-900
vehicles at the Saturday show this year. Many members of the
Michiana Cruisers left from the Niles Courthouse at 7:00 a.m. and
parked in a specially reserved spot on the far northwest side of the
grounds. Fortunately, we had a spot in the grass that allowed
us enough room to setup canopies to keep dry. We took a guided
tour of the Lane facilities, which is quite impressive. They have
over 100,000 square feet of warehouse storage to house their huge
inventory. Their retail store only accounts for 10% of their
total sales, the rest is from their catalogs and multiple racing
divisions.
This show really is worth getting a
little wet and I encourage everyone to try attending next year!
